Buffalo and HumVee

The HumVee is designed for one thing: operational dominance in hostile territory. It replaced the Jeep because modern warfare needed something that could take more punishment, carry heavier weapons, and keep moving through conditions that would stop anything else.

The Great Plains aren't empty because buffalo couldn't survive there. They're empty because they were systematically obliterated, often left to rot. They killed them to wipe out the people who had lived with us for 10,000 years. From 60 million to only a few thousand in zoos and managed herds.

The 9th and 10th Cavalry, Black soldiers who served on the frontier after the Civil War, were called Buffalo Soldiers by the Plains tribes they fought against. Formerly enslaved men enforcing the displacement of Indigenous peoples, both groups surviving genocide, both were used as tools of expansion.
